Florence is a great feast for the eyes.  The Medici wealth and banking empire supported and financed the Renaissance in Northern Italy.  Their capital of Florence was the showplace of their wealth and grandeur. The Church of Santa Maria Novella is a beautiful 15th century monument that is a feast for the eyes and a magnificent tribute to an age long since past.  I particularly love the Arabic influence on the facade.
